It was a sad day for sports in Detroit on Sunday. The three teams all currently in season took a dive, one that could prove detrimental to some.
The Wings lost a tough game in overtime to the Ducks. Unfortunately this now gives Anaheim home ice advantage, and it means that the Wings must win at least one on the road. The series continues to be a physical one, and they looked somewhat out of it once the tying goal was scored to make it 3-3 last night. Kirk Maltby played great, unfortunately he had little help. Again, I wish I could see the games on another station than "Vs.".
The Pistons were dominated in every statistical category in game 4. The Bulls came out hungry, a team that new they were on the brink of elimination. But never fear, this really only means one thing. The Pistons will make adjustments, come out strong in game 5, and win it at home to move on to the conference finals. There is no way Rip Hamilton has a game again as bad as he had Sunday, and there is no way Chris Webber scores zero points for the third straight game.
The Tigers looked pitiful on Sunday night. They were completely blown out on national TV, and failed to complete the sweep on division rival Minnesota. Virgil Vazquez (brought up from AAA Toledo to replace Jeremy Bonderman for one start) looked horrible and was unable to keep the ball down in the zone. The Twins, who recently have been struggling at the plate, had a field day on Tigers pitching. The worst part is that the Tigers were on ESPN Sunday night baseball for the first time in as long as I can remember and they failed to show the world that they are the contenders that they were last year. It was a chance for people to take the Tigers seriously. It's unfortunate that everyone will be making judgements based on what they saw last night and not the team that has won 11 of their past 13.
Never fear Detroit fans, quality teams always end up on top in the end, and that's exactly what you have.
